Dune: Awakening Sells 1 Million Copies as It Becomes Funcom’s Fastest‑Selling Game
Funcom has announced its MMO, Dune: Awakening, has reached 1 million sales, making it the company’s fastest-selling game ever. The MMORPG launched on PC on June 10, 2025, and will release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S soon.
Dune Awakening has now sold over 1 million copies as Funcom’s MMO becomes the fastest-selling title for the company. The game reached the milestone in less than two weeks, with the game launching globally for PC on June 10, 2025.
Based on Frank Herbert’s Dune series of novels, players fight for the control of Spice across a massive open world on the planet of Arrakis, battling sandstorms, other players, and Sandworms.
Why Dune: Awakening Is a Hit
Launching on the back of the successful 2021 and 2024 Dune films directed by Denis Villeneuve and starring Timothée Chalamet, Dune: Awakening has caught the imagination of over 1 million players now, who love the game for its immersive sci-fi setting, rich lore, and open-world survival mechanics.
The game’s launch has been a massive success, with players clearly enjoying the game with friends. An infographic shared by Funcom shows that 121,941 guilds have been created since its release on PC.
How Funcom Achieved Its Fastest Launch
Comparing it to another of its MMOs, Conan Exiles, which launched in 2018, Funcom says Dune: Awakening reached 1 million sales much quicker than Conan, which managed the feat after one year of its launch. Dune has also had a much larger concurrent player count, with a peak of over 189,000 on Steam, compared to Conan’s peak of 54,403.
Sharing other interesting bits of information, Funcom says players have consumed 6,111,692,000 grams of Spice, explored an area of 25,529,505 km2, placed 121,653,795 building pieces, crafted 517,585 Ornithopters, and crafted 101,259 Crysknives from Sandworm teeth.
