Dune: Awakening Launches on PC as Console Players Forced to Wait Until 2026
Dune: Awakening is now out on PC via Steam, but developer Funcom has confirmed console players will have to wait until at least 2026 to play the MMORPG. The long-anticipated MMO had a successful first day on Steam with over 142,000 concurrent players.
Funcom has now officially released Dune: Awakening on PC but while PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players will get the MMO, the developer has revealed it will be “sometime in 2026.”
Based on Frank Herbert’s legendary novels, Dune: Awakening blends open-world survival with large-scale MMO systems, with players fighting for Spice and control across the planet of Arrakis.
What Is Dune: Awakening?
Dune: Awakening is an open-world MMO that includes all the familiar systems typical of the genre, such as PvE questing, PvP gameplay, crafting, customizable classes, faction warfare, and base building.
While many of the features are recognizable and comparable to other MMOs, Funcom’s title stands out for its already well-established universe and rich narrative featuring the houses of Atreides and Harkonnen, the Fremen, and Bene Gesserit. The choices a player makes can decide the control of Spice and Arrakis for years to come.
Why Console Players Must Wait
Dune: Awakening is out now on PC, and while Funcom had already stated console players would have to wait, the developer has now updated fans with a launch “sometime in 2026.”
Although it has no official console release date, the MMO will eventually launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Fans can expect more information towards the end of 2025 or early 2026.
What to Expect on PC at Launch
Following a “classic” business model, fans can get the full Dune: Awakening with a one-time purchase, with no requirements to sub monthly to access the MMORPG. Funcom has already updated fans on the first five DLCs, which are statues for decorating your base, the first of which, Wildlife of Arrakis, is available now.
Additionally, there is already a Season Pass to encourage players to grind in the early days of the MMO. The game also features Twitch Drops and Support-A-Creator incentives for streamers. Dune: Awakening is now available on PC.
