Join the Dune: Awakening Open Beta from May 9–12! Play early, explore Arrakis, and find out how to boost your beta access chances.

Dune: Awakening officially launches on June 10 and while that’s not far off, there’s a way to start exploring the sands of Arrakis much sooner. No, we’re not talking about the 5-day early access period granted to deluxe and ultimate edition owners. We’re talking about the Open Beta Weekend which starts today. A whole month ahead of release!
This is your best shot at experiencing the game’s massive scope early and most importantly, for free. Let’s break down everything you need to know about the beta and how to get your spot in it.
Dune Awakening Beta: What To Expect
After a series of promising closed beta sessions, Funcom is opening the gates to the public with a large-scale Open Beta, running from May 9 to May 12.
Here’s when it all kicks off and when it wraps up:
- Beta Start Times:
- North America: 8:00 AM EDT / 5:00 AM PDT
- South America: 9:00 BRT
- Europe: 14:00 CEST
- Asia: 20:00 CST / 21:00 JST
- Beta End Times:
- North America: 5:59 PM EDT / 2:59 PM PDT
- South America: 18:59 BRT
- Europe: 23:59 CEST
- Asia: 5:59 CST / 6:59 JST
Players will get access to 20–25 hours of content featuring most of Act 1. You’ll be able to create your character, crash-land on Arrakis with your sandbike, and go on a survival-driven journey through the Hagga Basin south region.
Expect:
- PvE-focused gameplay as you battle sandworms, avoid deadly heatwaves, and fight off roaming bandits.
- A shared world experience where other players are also trying to survive alongside you.
- A few small PvP-enabled zones, according to the official beta FAQ, if you’re looking for a bit more danger.
For fans wondering about the timeline and characters, no Paul Atreides is not in the game. Instead, the story branches in a unique direction with Lady Jessica having a daughter, and Duke Leto is still alive. It’s a smart move that lets the game carve its own identity while still staying within the Dune universe.
Important to note, your progress during the beta will not carry over to the full release in June.
Increase Your Chances Of Getting In The Beta
Although this is a much larger beta than the earlier closed tests, space is still limited. There are however, multiple ways to increase your odds of scoring a beta invite:
- Wishlist and request access on the Dune: Awakening Steam page
- Sign up with your email on the official website
- Grab a code during the Global LAN Party Broadcast on May 10 – Tune in on Twitch to snag one of tens of thousands of codes being given away
Chances are, you’ve already ticked off the first or second. If not, now’s the time to do both then mark your calendar for tomorrow’s stream. Do all three and you’re one step closer to Arrakis this weekend.
