Sony Confirms PS5’s New Milestone – A Whopping 80.3 Million Units Sold
With the end of Q1 2025, Sony’s financial report is here. Updated to June 30, 2025, it shows the financial data of the Japanese giant. Among the data, we find figures related to PlayStation, especially the PS5. Page 12 of the report shows a solid 2.5 million units sold in the first 3 months of 2025. Reaching a total of 80.3 Million units sold.
This is an increase of about 100,000 units compared to the same Q1 in 2024. With a massive 123 Million monthly active users, not to mention digital game sales accounting for a whopping 83% of sales. It also recorded a slight increase in hardware peripherals compared to Q1 2024. To which the sales of the new FlexStrike Wireless Fight Stick will certainly be added in the future.
PlayStation 5 Compared to Other Sony Consoles
Many fans will be wondering how Sony’s latest console stacks up against previous generations. Especially when compared to the PS4, PS3, and the unbeatable PS2. The updated data shows the PS5 surpassing PSP sales, and just 7 million units behind the PS3. It will surely surpass it by the end of 2025. Meanwhile, the PS4 still has a significant lead at a solid 117.2 Million units.
But with PS4 support expected to end by early 2026, many will soon switch to the new gen. Meanwhile, the PS5 has reached an incredible number in a short time, despite stock issues from 2020-2021. But it remains hard to say if the PS5 will be able to dethrone the PS2 before the next gen, which is currently at the top with 160.63 Million units.
In Conclusion
All in all, it looks like the PS5 has seen a pretty significant increase during the first part of 2025. With the anticipated exclusives of 2025 and even 2026, they will surely have a further impact on the console’s sales. What do you think, which console will manage to dethrone the PS2 from the top spot? Let us know in the comments!
