Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound (NGR) is a new 2D action sidescroller from the team at The Game Kitchen. The well-known Spanish development team behind the celebrated Blasphemous series, and with publisher Dotemu under license from Koei Tecmo. Bringing a new classic adventure with a 2D hack & slash that pays homage to the pre-2004 series.
Where we’ll play a spin-off chapter as the young ninja Kenji Mozu. Who, in the absence of master Ryu Hayabusa, must defend the Hayabusa village. This chapter was announced at The Game Awards 2024 with a launch on all major platforms. Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound: Available Today
Today finally marks the launch of Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound by The Game Kitchen. A new spin-off chapter that celebrates the very origins of the series. Using a 2D hack & slash sidescroller style. The game is coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. And it’s available right now, as of 31 July 2025.
Taking us on a new adventure following Ryu Hayabusa’s disciple, Kenji Mozu. He must face the threat of a demon invasion aiming to revive the Demon Lord. With Ryu traveling to the USA to honor his father, it’s up to Kenji, along with Kumori of the Black Spider clan, to protect the world.
Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound: Gameplay and Key Features
Ragebound presents itself as a true tribute to the Koei Tecmo series. Bringing a spin-off chapter that fits perfectly between Ryu’s adventures in the USA. Offering:
- 2 Characters: Following the unlikely duo of Kenji Mozu from the Hayabusa village and Kumori from the Black Spider Clan. You can use the abilities of both ninjas from the rival clans simultaneously, and also learn more about their story.
- Gameplay and Levels: There will be a total of 16 main Levels accompanied by 8 Bonus levels. All packed with action, infinite lives, and an end-of-level point system. Use Kenji’s katana or Kumori’s kunai to strike enemies up close or from a distance. Plus, get passive bonuses with Talismans and powerful Ninja Fusion attacks.
- Art Style: Accompanied by a strong 2D art style that pays homage to 16- and 32-bit style games. All with a fluid touch full of animations, but also that dark and violent feel typical of Blasphemous.
Year of the Ninja: The Ninja Gaiden series in the spotlight
Ragebound is one of the flagship games for the Ninja Gaiden series in 2025. A year that Team Ninja itself considers the “Year of the Ninja”. Marking an important year for the series, which has already seen the great Remaster with Ninja Gaiden 2 Black in January. And an anticipated new installment, Ninja Gaiden 4, on 21 October 2025.
Where Ragebound pays homage to the origins of the series. Adopting a style inspired by the last 8-bit title and the 1991 OVA anime. With Jesús Campos behind the level design, and María Lozano on the protagonist and enemy design. It’s a game that has the potential to launch a new active 2D spin-off series alongside any new installments or remasters of the 3D series.
